Festive Drinks

It’s December and really cold…definitely time to get some festive drinks brewing! My 2 favourite recipes of mulled wine (with a secret ingredient) and hot spiced apple yumminess. I like to do these in the slow cooker which has the added benefit of meaning you can put it on before you go out and then come back to christmasy aromas and a delicious hot drink for all your pals!

Mulled Wine – CQ special recipe

Ingredients – makes a glass each for 6-8 people
2 bottles of red wine (cheap stuff is fine)
2 teaspoons of Demerara sugar
2 Cinnamon sticks
2 teaspoons of ground nutmeg
A handful of cloves
An orange (cut horizontally into slices)
2 bay leaves
Spiced Rum – this is the secret to making your mulled wine i.n.s.a.n.e.!

Method

  1. Turn on your slow cooker and pour in the wine
  2. Add at the sugar, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, orange slices and bay leaves and leave to mull for at least 20mins (or longer!)
  3. When serving into glasses/mugs leave a little room for half a shot of spiced rum – trust me – it will change your mulled wine forever!
